Dennis C. McLaughlin

Senior Vice President, Development
Dennis C. McLaughlin led the integrated project team for development of Kosmos’ Jubilee Field offshore Ghana as vice president and Jubilee project director. Discovered in mid-2007 by the Mahogany-1 well in the Gulf of Guinea’s deep waters, the Jubilee Field is the largest oil find offshore West Africa during the last decade. The team delivered first oil from Jubilee only 42 months after field discovery, one of the shortest cycle times for any deepwater floating production, storage and offloading vessel-based oil project of this scale in ultra-deep water.

McLaughlin is recognized in the oil and gas industry as a deepwater development expert. He has more than 30 years of management and engineering experience that encompass oil and gas project appraisal, development and production. He has represented major oil companies and service and supply firms and specializes in the implementation of subsea and floating development solutions.

Prior to joining Kosmos, McLaughlin worked for BHP Billiton Petroleum (BHPB) where he led the development of two large oil fields in the Gulf of Mexico, including the billion-dollar 125-million-barrel Neptune TLP-based project in 6,200 feet of water, the first major project in the Gulf operated by BHPB. He also was accountable for business delivery of the semisubmersible-based development of Atlantis, BHPB’s nonoperated 600+-million-barrel oil field in 6,700 feet of water.

As a manager at Shell Offshore/Shell Deepwater, McLaughlin was responsible for worldwide deepwater pre- and post-project subsea engineering activities. He also led the $300+ million subsea development of the Mensa gas field in the Gulf of Mexico for Shell that established two offshore world records at the time for water depth (5,300 feet) and tieback distance (68 miles). Shell received the Offshore Technology Conference Distinguished Achievement Award for this project. He also headed the subsea technology development strategy for Shell, which included leading the development of the Popeye Field that marked the company’s return to the subsea arena.

In addition, McLaughlin has developed subsea systems strategies for Cameron, a leading supplier of industry flow equipment products, systems and services, and managed business activities for Seaflo Systems, an international consultant specializing in frontier offshore technology. He began his career with Exxon (subsequently ExxonMobil) as a reservoir engineer and later project engineer.

McLaughlin earned a bachelor of science degree with honors in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University.
